Michael Maltzan Architecture and Tom Leader Studio have advanced to Stage III, the final stage, of the National Mall Design Competition for the Washington Monument Grounds at Sylvan Theater. Finalists were selected from a field of more than 1,200 entries with selections based on design portfolios, team qualifications, and Stage II interviews. The MMA/TLS team is one of four teams selected to participate in the 11 week design competition beginning in January 2011. The design concepts will be on public exhibition in Washington D.C. as of April 2012. The competition is a joint initiative sponsored by the Trust for the National Mall and the National Park Service as a means of securing the National Mall’s continued place as a premier civic and symbolic space in America.
