Awards from Los Angeles Business Council Celebrate Designs that Respond to and Build Community

The new Los Angeles Sixth Street Viaduct was honored with the grand prize at the 52nd Annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards. The award ceremony, hosted by the Los Angeles Business Council, recognized more than 40 architectural and design projects that exemplify architecture’s unique power to build community starting with inviting people to actively participate in the design process.

Hundreds of submissions competed in categories ranging from education and healthcare to housing and commercial office space. The jury panel was comprised of industry experts in architecture, design, engineering, building development and building owners. The Sixth Street Viaduct was honored as a 3,500’ cinematic icon designed not just as a transportation link but as a community destination that embraces walkability and pedestrian connection.

“This year the LABC is honoring projects that exemplify a new model of architecture, one that not only excels in design and execution but also has a meaningful impact in their communities, “said Mary Leslie, president of the L.A. Business Council.

Leading architects, city officials, and business leaders attended the sold-out event at the Beverly Hilton. Remarks were delivered by Michael Murphy, architect, author, educator and founding principal of MASS Design Group, known for his innovative approach geared to improving social equity and health outcomes through design.
