Founded in 1825, the National Academy of Design promotes art and architecture in America through exhibition and instruction. As the leading honorary society for visual artists and architects in the United States, they advocate for the arts as a tool for education, celebrate the role of artists and architects in public life, and serve as a catalyst for cultural conversations that propel society forward.

Becoming a National Academician is a lifetime honor given annually by the current National Academicians—it cannot be applied for or solicited. In a tradition dating back to the founding, current members nominate and elect a new class each year, honoring the group’s remarkable contributions to the story of American art and architecture. National Academicians show work in exhibitions, foster the next generation through educational programs, and offer a diploma work to the permanent collection of the Academy.

The induction celebration will feature remarks from National Academy of Design President Wendy Evans Joseph NA and Executive Director Gregory Wessner, with Michelle Grabner NA and Sangram Majumdar NA presiding as the Masters of Ceremonies.

The virtual Induction is free and open to all. RSVP to attend. Instructions for joining the Zoom event will be uploaded to the Induction’s website and emailed to all RSVP’d guests one hour prior to the start time.
