SIXTH STREET VIADUCT
IN ARCHITECTURAL RECORD

The Sixth Street Viaduct is featured in Architectural Record’s April issue that examines the “Public Realm” and the many architectural typologies that shape our cities, ranging from transportation to community centers to housing.  As one of six featured transportation projects underway across the country, the article highlights the Sixth Street Viaduct for its innovative design that will carry cars while also incorporating pedestrian and bike lanes that connect to new public park spaces below the span via stairs and ramps.  Spanning the Los Angeles River between the  Bolye Heights and Arts District neighborhoods, Michael Maltzan noted that “From the very beginning, there was broad stakeholder consensus that this bridge should do more than move vehicles. L.A. is changing. The river is becoming accessible. People want to walk and bike instead of driving. They want green spaces. So the viaduct must enable this future and connect these neighborhoods in a deeper, more meaningful way.”
