STAR APARTMENTS NAMED
U.S. GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL
OUTSTANDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECT

Star Apartments has been named as this year’s LEED for Homes Outstanding Affordable Housing Project by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).  The awards program recognizes projects, developers and homebuilders that have demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation in residential green building.

Star Apartments, a LEED for Homes Platinum development, was constructed using prefabricated modular housing units stacked on a 2 story concrete superstructure.  Individual apartment units were built off-site, delivered to the site, and craned into place on the new structural podium.  The building design emphasized optimizing efficiency in the electrical, mechanical, irrigation, and plumbing systems while utilizing an already-developed site, capitalizing on adaptive reuse of the existing structure, and increasing the square footage of the existing.  The project’s sustainable features also include no-VOC materials, Energy Star appliances, energy efficient fixtures and mechanical systems, a high-efficiency central boiler, and low-flow fixtures throughout the building.
