MMA works on a wide range of projects—from museums to affordable housing to infrastructure to urban design—both nationally and internationally. We work out of a collaborative studio in Silverlake, surrounded by models and drawings that tell the story of our projects and design process.

PROJECT ARCHITECT
Michael Maltzan Architecture (MMA) is seeking a skilled and motivated Project Architect with approximately 4-6 years of experience in design-focused architectural practices. This position is ideal for a candidate with experience supporting and managing projects from concept through construction, and a deep commitment to design excellence.
Key Qualifications:
- Experience working on project teams through all phases of design and construction, producing clear, coordinated technical documents.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate key design challenges and technical solutions effectively to both internal teams and consultants.
- Ability to help navigate complex designs while balancing architectural intent, budget awareness, and technical feasibility.
- Experience with consultant coordination and construction administration; familiarity with contracts and project documentation.
- Experience assisting with budget development, cost tracking, and basic project financial coordination.
- Strong time management skills with experience in project scheduling and work planning.
- In-depth knowledge of building codes, permitting, and coordination with regulatory agencies.
- Professional communication and client-facing skills; able to represent the firm with clarity and professionalism.
- Broad project experience across residential, commercial, cultural, educational, and institutional sectors.
- Collaborative team member with the ability to support junior staff and work closely with senior leadership.
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills.

- Additional rendering and design software a plus
ARCHITECTURAL INTERN
MMA is accepting applications for students or recent graduates to join the office as quarterly interns. Available internship periods are:
- Winter (December – February)
- Spring (March – May)
- Summer (June – August)
- Fall (September – November)
Applicants should clearly indicate in the questionnaire which quarter(s) they are interested in when applying. Each internship lasts approximately 12 weeks, during which interns will assist project teams with physical modeling (from study models to presentation models), digital modeling, renderings, videos and animations, graphic presentation, and design studies.
Requirements:
- Excellent academic standing
- Experience with a wide range of computer design applications
- Strong physical model making skills
